    Contest entries, anyone?

Just wondering if we'll see a few (at least!) by end of month ....

Just FYI, I have nothing in mind.

We are working on one, but not had much time to be able to do it together...we'll give it ago, all the code is in our head anyway - it's getting down to the keyboard is a different matter! It's about 30% complete I'd say!

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

It looks like the idea of entering a contest for programs containing a time element wasn't much of a hit - this time ;). Does anyone plan on entering late ... ? If so, I am happy to extend for a week or so.

If you do want to enter, let me know. Otherwise, we will call this contest off for lack of summer indoor time interest (oh well, that happens sometimes, I guess).

My son and I have started on an entry -- but at our current rate of progress, it would take us all of September. (Somehow the initial annoucement missed my email notofication).

In the true spirit of the competition...perhaps more "time" is indeed needed!

We have not done anything recently...but planning on a few hours this weekend - but an extension would be cool...

I think meteorigically speaking (cant spell that word!)...summer ends in the northern hemisphere 21st September, anyway?

Yep, let's extend the deadline to Sept 21. The season of summer and of Phrogram contest entry preparation will then both officially end.

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

Sorry guys, we just could not get this one in on time...just out of interest we were working on a "pong clock", that is the retro game...that instead of the score showing, it would have been been the current time, with the ball and paddles moving across the screen as per original game. We have seen this done before, with real clocks and watches - but not sure if has ever been done before in a programming language...?

But thought it would be a fun thing to do...it also challenged us to something that we have not really done before (well in our very infancy with it at least) - AI....

Alas..time has been the biggest problem! A bit of irony there!

It would be good if we could complete it at least to put on here, so hopefully one day it will materialize!

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

Sounds like a cool idea, TomDad. As it happens, it appears that no one had the time ;).

I'm tempted just to keep this contest open indefinitely, until we get at least five entries. At which point, we would get out of this contest's era and on to the next. At least, it saves me from having to come up with another idea for a contest for awhile!

So unless and until you hear otherwise, feel free to keep working on the pong clock and enter it before the clock strikes whenever!

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

That sounds a good idea, what I have found from these contests is an abilty and opportunity to learn something, that is when "I" think of a programming idea, its like I probably know already these days how to do it...(that is not supposed to sound big headed! Long way off being what I would "class" as a programmer (class being the word, and the breakthru!)...Even if some of our programs dont work properly! We can generally attempt some work around!)

...but if someone else suggests the idea, then that really when it can be "head scratching time" and a challenge...!

Anyway Summer depends on where your in the world anyway :-)

Yep, will work on it - half finished or not we'll put something on here eventually, just because of the challenge so to speak...!

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

The contests are important to us, we get some great stuff out of them and it makes Phrogram more of a fun community.

Hey - and we just sweetened the deal!

If you are one of the first five *credible* entries, you get a free T-shirt for your efforts (still need to pay shipping & handling costs; $10 per shirt).

See the home page for more details!

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

    Hi!

I know this is an older post, but I had a question about the parameters of the contest.  Since the theme is "time" would a learning game that helps teach children how to tell time count?  It seems to me that it would, but if the focus is more on illustrating how time passes, then maybe it wouldn't...  I'm worried about submitting something that doesn't match the requirements.

    Thanks!

    Maybe that link helps ?!

I think every program is welcome.

    Re: Contest entries, anyone?

Every program is most certainly welcome but a time theme is important - maybe helping kids learn to tell time, rather than count?
